Psalm 9:1-10:18

Chapter 9
To the director, on the death of the son, a psalm of David. 1 I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will recount all your wonders. 2 I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. 3 When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish from before you. 4 For you have upheld my justice and my cause; you sit on a throne as a righteous judge. 5 You rebuked nations, you destroyed the wicked, you blotted out their name forever and ever. 6 The enemy has come to an end; destructions have perished forever, and you have uprooted cities; their remembrance is destroyed. 7 The LORD sits forever; he has established his throne for judgment. 8 And he will judge Tubal in righteousness; he will judge the peoples in uprightness. 9 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, LORD, do not abandon those who seek you. 11 Sing to the LORD, who dwells in Zion; declare his deeds among the peoples. 12 For he inquires after their blood; he remembers—he does not forget the outcry of the oppressed. 13 Have mercy on me, LORD; see my affliction from my haters, those who lift me from the gates of death. 14 That I may recount all your praises in the gates of the daughter of Zion; I will rejoice in your salvation. 15 The nations have sunk in the pit they made; in the net which they hid, their foot was caught. 16 The LORD is known by his justice. The wicked are snared in the work of their hands. Higgaion. Selah. 17 The wicked will return to Sheol, all the nations that forget God. 18 For he will not forget the poor forever; the hope of the poor will not perish forever. 19 Arise, LORD! Let not man prevail! Let the nations be judged before your face! 20 Arise, O LORD; let mortals judge the nations before your faces—Selah.

Chapter 10
1 Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide in times of distress? 2 In the pride of the wicked they burn; they seize the poor in schemes they devise. 3 For the wicked praises over the craving of his nephesh and covets; the blessed despises the LORD. 4 The wicked man is proud to the height of his nose; he does not seek God; there is no God in all his thoughts. 5 His ways prevail at all times; your justices are far from him, high above him. He puffs at all his adversaries. 6 He has said in his heart, "I will not be shaken, from generation to generation; he does no moral evil." 7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and deceit; under his tongue toil and iniquity. 8 He sits in ambush in the courtyards of the Tabernacle in hiding places; he will kill the innocent. His eyes watch the poor woman. 9 He lies in wait in a hiding place, like a lion in a lair he lies in wait to seize the afflicted; he seizes the afflicted in his dragnet, in his net. 10 He crushes him and bows him down, and he falls in his mighty ones, the might of Pharaoh. 11 He said in his heart, "God has forgotten; he has hidden his face; he will not see forever." 12 Arise, LORD! Lift your hand; do not forget the afflicted. 13 Why does the wicked man despise God? He has said in his heart, "You will not inquire." 14 You have seen, for you behold labor and anger. You will see, to give it into your hand. Upon you the helpless is abandoned, the orphan. You have been a Helper. 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; you will seek his wickedness—you will not find it! 16 The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations have perished from his earth. 17 You have heard the desire of the oppressed, LORD; you prepare their heart; make your ear attentive. 18 To judge the orphan and the oppressed—lest he continue to terrify humanity from the land.
